Beijing Acrobatics Show

The history of acrobatics in China can be traced back to Neolithic times. It is believed that acrobatics grew out of the labor and self-defense skills that the people practiced and demonstrated during their leisure time. Instruments of labor like tridents, wicker rings and articles of daily use such as tables, chairs, jars, plates and bowls were used in their performances.

By the time of the Han Dynasty (221 BC-220 AD), the acrobatic art or "Hundred Plays" further developed both in contents and varieties. In the Tang Dynasty, the number of acrobats greatly increased and their performing skills much improved. Progress in Chinese acrobatics was very great during the Tang Dynasty, between the 7th and 10th centuries, when performances were often held at the imperial court. And Acrobatics became known worldwide through performances presented along the Silk Road.

Chinese Acrobatic art has its own peculiarity. The performance itself is very depictive; therefore the requirement for lighting is much stricter than opera and drama. A successful acrobatic show also requires appropriate clothing. Costumes further enhance the beauty of the performance and increase the visual effects.

Chinese Acrobatic art is still what it was centuries ago in that it does not over emphasize the role of music. Performers pay more attention to the action. Therefore it takes time for performers to adapt to the music. The theme music perfectly coincided with the performance, which made the atmosphere of the event livelier. A high level acrobatic program needs excellent technique coaches and much preparation time before it is ready to be performed in public. When you watch a Chinese acrobatics show, you are strongly impacted both mentally and physically. It is truly and unforgettable experience.

At present, Chinese Acrobatics have developed into a kind of performance art. There are Beijing Acrobatics Showover 120 acrobatic troupes above the county level. More than 12,000 people are involved in performing. Chinese acrobatics has won acclaim and praise from audiences both at home and abroad, and Chinese acrobats won many gold medals in World Acrobatic Festivals in recent years. Cycling with Bowl Piling, Lion Dance and Vocal imitation are the most famous programs.

Beijing Tiandi Theatre is the special place for the performances of China Acrobatic Troupe. The performances of this troupe have gained many national and international prizes, such as Little Diabolo Girls, Morning Exercise, etc.

In Beijing Chaoyang District, there is another famous theatre, Beijing Chaoyang Theatre where you could watch acrobatics and other programs of entertainment. Top acrobatic artists invited from all over the country perform for Chinese and foreign tourists. The program features trick cycling, leaping through hoops and Chinese magic tricks. Some of the artists have won prizes in international competitions. Spinning plates, juggling umbrellas, contortionists and acrobats fill the air. Integrating superlative juggling, balancing and jumping through hoops with the finest ancient Chinese dancing, the star-studded cast will amaze.
